HJA brings you another rare and exciting rally-inspired performance icon.

To commemorate Tommi Makinen's world record breaking fourth World Championship in a row, Mitsubishi launched a special edition of the Lancer EVO VI. Specially designed to closely resemble Makinen's own Group A Lancer, this special edition EVO VI has been tuned and set up for optimum performance on any surface.

Compared to the standard Evo VI, the Makinen special edition got an angrier-looking bespoke front bumper, 17-inch white Enkei wheels and a leather MOMO steering wheel and gear knob. Red and black Recaro bucket seats featured, embossed with ‘T. Makinen Edition’, along with a quicker steering ratio, 10mm lower ride height and a titanium turbocharger turbine which spooled up faster than the regular model.

The Tommi Makinen Evo 6 was powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit, which produced 276bhp, and propelled it from 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds. Its top speed is 150mph. What else stands out about the Makinen-inspired Evo, is how light it is compared to the most recent Evo X. It weighs only 1365 kg, and this is really noticeable on B-roads.

This gorgeous example is in excellent condition throughout with only minor wear and tear to note. The chassis is still original and hasn’t been caked in underseal hiding all sorts of issues that can end up costing tens of thousands to put right.

This Mitsubishi Evo VI Tommi Makinen Edition is a highly desirable limited-production rally-derived performance hero, offered in original unmodified condition. It would make a discerning addition to any collection of Japanese performance icons, and a thrilling companion for B-road blasts and car show visits alike.
